During my 8 months in Zagreb, I was enjoying the great beer, Karlovačko, trying to avoid Ožujsko, and having a few Pans here and there. Beer selection in Zagreb was limited but local brews were available during my travels throughout the region. In Serbia I became a fan of Lav, in Montenegro it was nikšičko but now, I'm in Brussels for 5 weeks and thoroughly looking forward to sampling the expertise of the Belgian brewers and the variety of beers they have to offer. I'm seeking to experience as many of these beers as possible and chronicle this adventure on this blog. My initial goal was 50 beers, then I realized this meant 10 new beers a week. While I'm sure I could handle this, I'm actually here to work so 25 is a much more reasonable goal :-) Check out the blog for updates from my stay and feel free to leave comments or suggestions about your favorite Belgian beers.

Floris Blanche

Our first move for the night after enjoying the Leffe and some Chouffe at home, we headed to meet some other friends at the Delirium Cafe. Delerium is located right in the center of Brussels and advertises a beer list of more than 2,400 beers from all over the world. There are several on draft and obviously more in bottles but I started with this draft wheat beer. I believe the Floris Blanche is brewed by Delirium.  You may be familiar with Delirium beers as they are pretty popular in the U.S.  This particular beer is a wheat beer at 5.0% ABV but the camera and the lighting that night makes it a look a bit more golden than it really is. It was a cloudy yellow color, although not as bright as the Blanche de Brugge. It had a fruity aroma and was a bit frothy. The taste was sweet and sour and also a bit yeasty. The beer was pretty low on the carbonation which made it seem a bit flat and not as refreshing as a typical wheat beer. Overall it was ok, and economical choice, and easy to drink. Here is my breakdown:
Appearance 4.5
Aroma 21.5
Flavor 32
Mouthfeel 7.5
Overall 16
Total 81.5 -I wouldn't seek it out but it's worth a try if you see it on a menu
